The Sims: Livin' Large Expansion Pack

The Sims: Livin' Large Expansion Pack Review

Hiya folks! ( ALERT! ) This game is awsome! It is for parents and kids age's 10 + up! Very very good! In this game game there are o' lot more furniture, clothing, and alot of other cool things. This game is also tight becuz when ur sims die they can be brought back 2 life if you win rock, paper scisors with the Grim Reaper. Other funny characters are: The depressed clown, The Genie of the lamp and the ,000 robot who cleans, repairs, and gardens ur flowers. The bad things about this game are just some little insects crawl around the floor, so ur sims have to go over a spray em'. Hehe! Also, ur sims can catch a strange sickness and quickly die from it and i think it is contageous. You know there sick if they cough and stuff. ( I still didn't find a cure from that, also i know beacause both my sims died from that.) Overall this is an awsome game everyone should have!

The Sims: Livin' Large Expansion Pack Feature

  • The Sims - Livin' Large takes the Sims to a whole new level of entertainment -- it moves them out of their old house, and into a gorgeous mansion!
  • Design your mansion to your liking -- it can be a medieval castle, or a Vegas casino
  • Sad clowns will visit your Sims if they're sad, and a helpful cleaning robot will pick up after you
  • Use the chemistry set to create potions to make you invisible, or make an evil clone of yourself
  • Voodoo dolls, genie lamps, and alien visitations are just some of the other elements that keep the Sims-style fun coming!

The Sims: Livin' Large Expansion Pack Overview

Sex and aliens. That's really all that was missing from the amazing original edition of The Sims, and the expansion Livin' Large delivers these new treats to liven up your beloved Sims existence.

New characters (including a gladiator and Xena-like warriors), and, more impressively, new decorations are the reasons to buy this game. The furnishings are mostly grouped by theme, with the medieval dungeon option the most authoritative of the bunch. (Little Cassandra Goth has been longing to read by torch light all along.)

Our personal favorite is the futuristic theme, with an optional, but expensive, maid/gardener robot to take care of the fabulous modern furnishings. Clearly the Sims team has been doing its research over at Herman Miller, and you'll have a bright red, flowing-foam sofa to show for it.

But it wouldn't be The Sims if only good taste prevailed. Bring on the mai tais with a tiki-heavy islander theme. There's also a startling collection of carpeting and objects best grouped under the design ideal we call "demented clown."

The attention-getting rarities include: a lame fortune-telling ball (our advice mostly centered around hiring a maid), a voodoo doll for hexing roommates, and a genie who delivers as much bad as good (dead plants, anyone?). And, yes, there's a vibrating bed to give your Sims the spice they've been missing.

While the expansion didn't blow us away, it did provide more of the humor and novelty true Sims die-hards will appreciate. With even more attention to detail than the original offering, EA deserves Sims-like applause for this edition. --Jennifer Buckendorff

The Sims: Livin' Large Expansion Pack Specifications

The Sims has sold millions of copies since its release, and now all those virtual voyeurs who bought it have a new bag of tricks to unleash on the unsuspecting inhabitants of their computers. The Livin' Large expansion pack comes with enough new items to buy, careers to pursue, and hilarious secrets to keep fans glued to their monitors until a full-fledged sequel appears.

Those of you who missed the phenomenon the first time around will have to buy a copy of the original game in order to use this add-on, but it's worth it. The Sims lets you create an entire neighborhood of digital people who all have their own unique personalities, jobs, relationships, and desires. Livin' Large takes this concept to new extremes, adding mad scientists, magical genies, and even the Grim Reaper to the mix. It also comes with more than 100 new objects to enhance your sims' dwellings. One desperately needed object is the robot maid, who handles all the housework for well-heeled sims, letting its owners focus on more important (and fun) things--such as the new vibra-bed.

Considering how many free objects and cool unofficial patches are available on the Internet, is Livin' Large worth the money? Definitely. The enhancements are of professional quality and really add a lot of surreal fun to the game. You also get new features, such as the ability to run five neighborhoods at the same time, and five fun new career paths to explore, such as Slacker and Musician. No fan of The Sims should miss this one. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Plenty of new items to buy and career paths to explore
  • The ability to run 5 neighborhoods at once will keep you busy
  • Much more humorous than the original release
Cons:
  • Some fans may not like the more surreal additions

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns Expansion

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns Expansion Review

...Clone Campaigns is a neat expansion pack for Galactic Battlegrounds. It updates Galactic Battlegrounds to Epsiode II, with the Republic and Confederacy. Also, several changes are made to the game itself, so even if you play one of the old civilizations, it will be new and fun. The most major are:
* Air cruisers- Cannons in the air. Verrrry sllllooooowww recharge rate.
* Anti-air is more powerful/Fighters are less powerful against Anti-air.
* Jedi/Sith upgrades cheaper
* Turrents are more expensive
I would recommend that you get this if you have Galactic Battlegrounds. If you don't have Galactic Battlegrounds, it's an RTS (real time strategy) game based on the Age of Empires II engine where you can become your favorite civ (Royal Naboo, Wookies, Rebel Alliance, Republic, Gungans Empire, Trade Federation, Confederacy) and fight with other civs for control of a world.

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns Expansion Feature

  • Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds - Clone Campaigns takes you into an all-new strategy adventure that closely parallels the events of Episode II!
  • This expansion pack adds a whole level of strategy to the game, with new features like team bonuses -- team up two civilizations to gain specific new strengths.
  • Existing civilizations have been updated - The Naboo get new bonuses, the Rebels get a new air unit, the Empire gets a new assault mech and more
  • Follow two generals, Echuu Shen-Jon and Sev'Rance Tann as they struggle with (or against) two new civilizations - the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
  • Visit amazing new worlds like the lava planet of Sarapin!

XIII (Mac)

XIII (Mac) Review

This is a really good game, and the plot goes at a tremendous place, taking a lot from JFK (you are accused of assasinating the President), graphic novels (the whole game is animated as if it was one) and other FPS (first person shooter) games, including now standards of the genre: bazooka, rifle, sniper rifle, automatic, ect. Where the games fall down, is that the minumum requirements are the bare bones. Unfortunately, I have only the minumum of some of the requirements, and as a result, often the view went erratic when I tried to aim on one person out of many. Also, a lot of characters repeat lines or words. This is a glitch, and quite obviously not for dramatic effect. Also, at a point it is too steeped in comic book lore, and the BOOOM on the screen when a grenade explodes gets irritating. But these are the only bad points. Overall, this is an enveloping game with a unique style and gameplay, let down by a lack of polish.

XIII (Mac) Feature

  • Journey there to learn who you are -- and discover the hideous truth about a massive conspiracy.
  • Your identity, the President's death and America's future are all shrouded in mystery, but somehow intertwined -- it's up to you to figure out how
  • Your internal sixth sense detects enemies when they come -- use your cleverness and fighting skills to take them out
  • Work with a dizzying array weapons, from silent crossbows to furious automatic weapons -- you can even use chairs, bottles. Even enemy soldiers as human shields
  • Innovative new multiplayer system with new game modes like Barfight and Cover Me

XIII (Mac) Overview

XIII is tge ultra-stylish first person shooter that has ser the PC and console world alight. XIII has a gripping plot you play through the game as a man who has lost his memory and been accused of killing the president the plot unravels through in-game dialogue short comic-book style cut scenes and best of all sudden flashbacks.System Requirements:Minimum: Mac OS 10.2.3 Macintosh PowerPC 800 MHz 1.5 GB available hard disk space 128 MB of RAM (w/virtual memory set to at least 256 MB) Hardware accelerated 3D graphics card with 16 MB VRAM. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion Review

I always felt that DS9 suffered from the "Jan Brady/Rodney Dangerfield" syndrome: that is, the show didn't get the respect from the fans that is so richly deserved. While praise was heaped upon "Next Generation" and "Voyager," it just appeared that DS9 was not given its props.

As one of its most stalwart supporters, I strongly recommend this episode guide for its attention to detail. Contrary to the other reviewer, I had no trouble accessing all the information contained on the disc. The information helps me to learn about favorite eps and refresh my memory of all the intricacies involved in the production of this excellent show.

This is one "companion" that I am glad that I "met."

Logitech MX Revolution - Mouse - laser - wireless - RF - USB wireless receiver - gloss black

Logitech MX Revolution - Mouse - laser - wireless - RF - USB wireless receiver - gloss black Review

I've had this mouse for years, and it worked amazingly, all the way up until I lost my second receiver for it... stupid me... However, I think you may want to look at newer Logitech mice, as I don't think this one is in production anymore and they may have improved them in newer editions. Oh, and by the way, I payed around for it, about 3 years ago... I don't know why it's so expensive here.

Why not get this instead? Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution

The Pros:

-The mouse looks great! Anyone who saw it was impressed just looking at it.

-Then they used it, and it feels great too. The mouse is a little taller than others, but I liked the bigger size, was comfortable.

-The programmable buttons are very useful and easy to configure. If you don't use them, you are being wasteful and unappreciative...haha but really. You can program them for EACH INDIVIDUAL APPLICATION. Sorry for yelling, but even the left and right on the scroll wheel was useful(I used Copy and Paste for use with data entry, Forward and Back for web surfing, PgUp and PgDown for digital music programs... endless possibilities).

-The thumb "ZOOM" wheel was the best, I work with a lot of music, and being able to adjust the volume with that button was very effective.

-The mouse speed is good, nothing to complain about. I didn't try to pick apart the DPI and all that, but I thought it was pretty quick. (It says "848nm PERFORMANCE LASER" around the laser, not "HIGH PERFORMANCE LASER" like the picture says)
-The dual mode scroll wheel is great. Either smooth spinning (can spin quickly and freely), or with the regular scrolling resistance (like your old mouse wheel).

-The battery life was never a problem for me. Just made sure that I put it back on the charger every few days.

The Cons: (minus half a star each)

-The RF receiver is too big nowadays. It was fine when it was plugged into my desktop, but it seems too big for my laptop... about the size of a small thumb drive. Always afraid I'm going to snap it off. The newer Wireless-RF mice have a mini receiver that you can leave plugged in while transporting... very handy.

-The battery charging connection seemed to maybe be going bad, because the mouse wouldn't always light up to charge EVERY time I set it in the dock. I might have to wiggle it as I set it down.

I honestly can't think of any more cons. It served me well, and lived a good life.

Respectfully yours,
TEG

Think Like a King Chess Workout Family Package

Think Like a King Chess Workout Family Package Review

I really like the way this program drastically improved my tactical vision by just solving about 100 "Grades By Difficulty" puzzles a day for a period of a few weeks (!). My rating on ICC went up about 100 points and, equally important, my confidence grows accordingly. Wonder what this will do to my future otb-rating (ELO).

Only two complaints:

1)When taking a test there's no "counter" visible, so you don't have a clue how many puzzles you still have to go (I like the way other programs of theirs - like "Intermediate Tactics" give information like "#5 of 50").
2)When you make a few mistakes, a small window opens up, showing you a similar position as the one you're trying to solve, which you can practice on, but... where the "main puzzles" have the (option of showing the) color you're playing at the bottom of the board, these small "help boards" always show the position from the White side.

I find the above mentioned "shortcomings" annoying, but maybe it's just me...

Overall, definitely a program worth buying, although I'd suggest you get "Total Chess Training", which not only contains CT-ART 3.0, but also 4 other interesting programs (Encyclopedia of Middlegames, Encyclopedia of Opening Blunders, Studies 2.0 and Strategy 2.0) for about . There's also a newer version of this product ("Total Chess Training 2") available for the same price, here on Amazon.com

You Don't Know Jack Jumbo

You Don't Know Jack Jumbo Review

the most fun I've had on the computer. The thing that gets to you is how its totally non-repetitive. The dialog is seamless unlike many sports games ("forsberg SHOOTS! he SCORES what a great WRIST SHOT") Tons of useless information great for conversations. Dozens of play modes throughout each version will definitally keep you playing. Another fun aspect is the hidden stuff. New play modes, jokes and tricks pop up every so often(Question: you know what would be really good right about now? Answers: A. Hot Dog B. Taco C. Pizza D. Nachos). I can reccomend this for anyone who wont mind simulated insults and the occasional adult themed question. Its also a great value. Buying all the games seperately(if you can find them) would exceed this price by far. A nearly perfect compillation!

You Don't Know Jack Jumbo Overview

"Jumbolicious"--that's Jellyvision's entirely accurate and adequate one-word description of this uber-collection of You Don't Know JACK, their award-winning, cake-taking, mega-popular trivia game. JACK Jumbo is the natural evolutionary descendant of previous JACK packs (JACK Huge, The Irreverent Collection, etc.), but this one towers over its predecessors, boasting over 4200 questions in all. This super-size JACK comes equipped with five separate games: YDKJ volumes one through three (each weighing in at 800 questions), YDKJ: The Ride (800 questions), and YDKJ Offline (1000 questions).

The first three volumes are straightforward fare, certainly familiar to anyone who's seen or played YDKJ: you're convincingly immersed in a hip, TV-style game show, buzzing in (by yourself or with up to two other players) to answer questions for cash. As with all the JACK titles, it's not so much the idea of the game (trivia) as the incredible production values and the in-your-face, often laugh-out-loud delivery that makes the game such a kick in the pants.

YDKJ: The Ride makes a slight departure from the game show motif (no green room!), as contestants travel through different "floors" answering questions, but adds the nice touch of having hosts from all the previous installments come back to make guest appearances. YDKJ Offline--as you might have guessed--is the offline version of the popular JACK the netshow.

An excellent value, YDKJ Jumbo comes through with a heavy dose of JACK style, perfect for die-hard JACK fans or anyone looking for a lot of laughs and massive replay value. --Paul Hughes

Pros:

  • All the fun and insanity of YDKJ in one neat package
  • Tons of questions--game holds up well to repeat play
  • Great for both JACK fans and those who don't know JACK
Cons:
  • Some players may be turned off by YDKJ's wit

You Don't Know Jack Jumbo Specifications

This software package includes five volumes of the award-winning party game that tests your trivia knowledge through an on-screen game show. YOU DON'T KNOW JACK allows one, two, or three players to battle wits, and the Jumbo edition ensures hours of nonrepetitive challenges.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Mac)

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Mac) Review

The game is based on a collection of short stories by Harlan Ellison. After the Cold War, the computers of the USA, Russia and China take over the world and wipe out almost the entire human race. The Allied Mastercomputer (called AM) holds the last five humans as prisoners to torture them. Any of them has to face his or her past in a virtual adventure AM has designed for them. There they encounter their fears and weaknesses.

The player can choose which of the protagonists he wants to be but in fact he has to complete all of the six stories in order to solve the game. There are different ways of completing the game depending on the humanity the player shows.

The voiceacting features Harlan Ellison as AM.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Mac) Feature

  • Based on the Harlan Ellison story.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream (Mac) Overview

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a computer adventure game based upon Harlan Ellison's short story of the same name. It is about an evil computer named AM that has destroyed all of humanity except for five people he has been keeping alive and torturing for the past 109 years. Each survivor has a fatal flaw in his or her character, and in an attempt to crush their spirits, AM has constructed a metaphorical adventure for each that preys upon their weaknesses. To succeed in the game, the player must make ethical choices to prove to the evil computer that humans are better than machines, because they have the ability to redeem themselves.

Toca Race Driver 3

Toca Race Driver 3 Review

There are not many racing games for the Mac so when a new one arrives hopes are high.

Overall this has been very entertaining. Modern race cars, rally cars, dirt racers, and a few "classics" can keep you at the controls for way too long.

The game runs decently on my three year old i-Mac but there are some glitches. A few of the track/car combinations stutter badly on my machine, rendering them useless.

Purists will gripe over some of the grids; when were there ever 12 W-196 Benzes in one race? Nevertheless there's much to enjoy with authentic sounds and handling characteristics.

The front engine, straight eight Benz sounds real and powerslides like it should. The designers did a good job getting the various cars to feel and sound right.

The tracks appear very authentic. When I watch real racing on the Speed Channel I often have a deja vu experience. Monza and Spa are my favorites.

Mac users might want to investigate "Total Immersion Racing" as well. It does not have quite the variety of Toca 3 but has run absolutely glitch free on my computer.

Toca Race Driver 3 Feature

  • Over 70 licensed race cars.
  • Over 80 international circuits from around the world.
  • Most realistic damage in any Mac racing game.
  • Pro Career Mode: Choose from one of six racing disciplines and drive your way up to the ultimate racing machine
  • World Tour Mode: Takes you on an exhilarating tour through the game and lets you sample all the different racing styles on offer

Toca Race Driver 3 Overview

TOCA Race Driver 3 is the ultimate racing simulator for the Mac. You get every element of motorsport, with over 35 types of racing through 120 championships! TOCA Race Driver 3 features the most motorsports in any game, including Open-Wheel, GT, Touring Car, Oval, Off-Road and Classics.
